We In Social Tech, a new accelerator to help female tech-for-good founders build their social ventures has unveiled its first cohort of 20 women-led ventures – with health, skills, inclusivity and even theatre covered. Julian Blake reports.
A new London-based accelerator created to help women tech-for-good founders to build their ventures, has named the 20 projects taking part in its first cohort.
The We In Social Tech accelerator, located in Haringey’s Wood Green Works is supported by Deutsche Bank through its Made for Good social enterprise programme, and delivered by not-for-private-profit enterprise agency Nwes London.
Across three cohorts, the WIST accelerator is backing 60 women-led UK tech businesses with a social purpose, “to make a step change in their enterprise” throughout 2019/20.
Among those to benefit are tech-for-good ventures focussing on health, skills, inclusivity and theatre.
WIST offers three six-month support programmes over two years, including business growth plans, investment and finance readiness, peer learning groups and free co-working space. It will not take any equity or intellectual property.
“Women entrepreneurs (We) in the technology sector face greater challenges and obstacles to success than men,” explains We In Social Tech. “Research shows that women are sorely under-represented, with less than 7% of tech jobs in Europe filled by women.”
WIST expects to recruit its next cohort of women-led startups in February and April.
